NFPA 901 guidelines enable fire departments and other fire protection organizations to effectively report data.

NFPA 901: Standard Classifications for Incident Reporting and Fire Protection Data is now more closely aligned with the U.S. Fire Administration (USFA) to help keep everyone on the same page. Used by software developers along with end users, NFPA 901 establishes a common language and definitions that define and describe elements and classifications used by fire departments throughout the United States and other countries.

Revised for better consistency with the National Fire Incident Reporting System (NFIRS), NFPA 901 addresses:

  • Pre-incident environments, such as fire defense features of a structure
  • Fire and other emergency incidents
  • Post-incident damage assessments
  • Fire service data

This document also offers a classification system for data captured by automated databases. NFPA 901 does not provide guidelines for a reporting system or related forms. (Softbound, 172 pp., 2016)
