Mission Statement

The Fire Marshal’s Public Fire Safety Council is committed to making Ontario the most fire safe community in North America by developing open, innovative and creative partnerships between members of the fire safety community and the general public to increase awareness of issues and to help shape policies, strategies and legislation.

Mandate

The mandate of the Council is to discuss issues and proposals directly related to the role and mandate of the Office of the Fire Marshal and to promote partnerships, develop programs, provide advice and/or recommendations on issues and proposals related to fire safety. The Council will:

  • provide the Fire Marshal with advice and/or recommendations regarding fire safety issues;

  • endorse training, prevention and public education activities (either private initiatives or partnerships) that the Council feels will make a significant contribution to fire safety throughout the province;
  • interpret and coordinate the effects and activity of the exchange of information among all individuals and organizations with an interest in fire safety;

  • refer complex issues and priority initiatives to the Standing Committees, or to ad hoc committees established at the discretion of the Chair-person;

  • consider questions referred to the Fire Marshal by the Minister of Community Safety and Correction Services.
